John Christopher, PhD

As an avid traveler, I value exploration and discovery of new places, new points of view, and different cultures. One of my favorite travel writers – Rick Steves - says that the best souvenir is a broader perspective. I bring this approach to my coaching and help professionals discover pathways to success. I use my training and professional experience in psychology of the workplace to help professionals navigate the work world, build skills, identify opportunities, overcome challenges, and achieve success.

My journey as a professional coach started with a passion for psychology and in particular, psychology of the workplace. I discovered this profession … Industrial Organizational Psychology … during my early college days. It continues to amaze me how people are at the core of what makes our modern work world tick. Early in my career I managed employee engagement studies and advised senior leaders on how to build healthy work climates. In mid-career, I served as a professor of organizational leadership and worked with MBA students to develop critical leadership skills and a sound understanding of individual, team, and organizational effectiveness.

As a coach, I value curiosity, creativity, resilience, perseverance and achievement. No matter what type of work I’ve done, the purpose has always been about helping others to succeed and helping leaders create healthy workplaces. I use best practices in coaching to help professionals identify key priorities, set attainable goals, develop action plans, fulfill performance objectives, and achieve work-life balance. I enjoy partnering with anyone who is looking to discover, develop, and realize their full potential.

My own professional experience includes working with organizational leaders in human resources, marketing, and operations roles in a wide range of industries. I earned a Ph.D. from Wayne State University in Industrial Organizational Psychology and my coach training comes from the Center for Creative Leadership.
